Zsuzsanna Horvath was only 8 years old when she took a book from her parents’ shelves and started reading… and she’s been fascinated by psychology ever since.

That fascination has seen her travel from her homeland, Hungary, across Europe and to Australia, settling in Brisbane but only after visiting every single jail in Victoria.

Don’t worry: those jail visits were all in the name of research! Zsuzsanna – her name is pronounced ‘Ju-Jarna’ – developed a prisoner mental health program that has been implemented across that state for her PhD.

In joining Therapy Pro, Zsuzsanna can carry out psychological assessments and interventions, develop behavioural support plans, and deal with presentations including anxiety, stress, depression, trauma, grief, and other emotional regulation issues.

She has particular experience working with clients who have experienced childhood trauma or who have been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.

In developing the prisoner mental health program, Zsuzsanna had to become familiar with all types of mental health therapies, looking at what worked, what didn’t and why.

In working with you, she’ll seek the best fit of therapeutic tools for your needs.

“We are all unique. No one therapy works for everybody. We can work together to tailor a program, maybe using a combination of tools, that will work best for you,” she says.

If you’re worried about mispronouncing her name, she’s happy for you to use its shortening which sounds like one of her favourite foods: ‘sushi’!

And there’s no need to be concerned about her English: she’s been speaking English since she was 3!

Zsuzsanna was awarded her research doctorate at Australia’s Swinburne University.
