Imogen Russell-Head is a psychologist (provisional) with a long interest in the connection between environment and behaviour; how environment and society play a part in creating — even accentuating– disability.

As Imogen puts it: “If the world was built for wheelchair users, then using a wheelchair would not be seen as a disability.”

Growing up with her own health challenges, Imogen understands the complexity of ‘invisible’ conditions.

“Sometimes the mental or emotional impact can be more crippling than the physical impact of an injury, disability or medical condition,” she says.

As a psychologist (provisional), Imogen carries out thorough psychological assessments and uses tailored evidence-based interventions to help child, adolescent and adult clients with disability address mental and psychological challenges that may be blocking their dreams and goals.

Some of the areas Imogen can help with include emotional regulation, stress management, social communication, and behaviour support.

She also works with clients who are anxious or depressed, or questioning who they really are or where they fit.

Imogen’s approach is affirming and motivational, recognising and celebrating individuality rather than society’s preferred ‘normal’.

“Because I understand what it is like to be the ‘patient’ who has things done to them by the ‘experts’, I take a collaborative approach, working alongside you, supporting you to achieve your goals.”

Imogen will help you challenge and reframe unhelpful thoughts and build your confidence and self-belief.

Imogen Russell-Head gained her Masters of Professional Psychology at Deakin University.
