Occupational therapists are daily living specialists: Therapy Pro Sunshine Coast team member Kim Felstead goes about assessing needs and putting in place supports and interventions a bit differently.

“I’ve always been fascinated with how the brain works. When I get a referral, I’ll consider the medical information about the presenting condition, and what’s happening with the brain, as well as listening intently to the life story of my client and what he or she wants most to achieve,” Kim explains.

“My assessments and interventions are about enabling my client to adapt life after a significant change and to enable them to live their best life from where they are at the moment.”

Kim has worked as an occupational therapist since 2005, nine of those years working across trauma and acute assessment in hospitals in Australia and the United Kingdom.

She spent a further five years assessing aged clients’ needs for their continued independent home living.

Cognitive assessments, functional mobility assessments, daily living assessments and rehabilitation needs are key strengths.

Her investigative approach pays off in making the right equipment and mobility aid prescriptions for safe, more independent living too.

Kim holds a Bachelor of Behavioural Science and a Masters in Occupational Therapy from La Trobe University.
