Kymberley Walker wants to know what is important for you to do in your day with greater independence, dignity, and safety?

That’s the first question Kymberley, an occupational therapist (OT), asks when she starts working with you.

“I’m a practical person. Occupational therapy is all about helping someone from a practical perspective. Our days are full of things that occupy our time. How effectively and how safely we do those ‘things’, and what we choose to do, is another matter!”

Kymberley works with clients of all ages, undertaking assessments of daily living and working on strategies to develop skills and independence, safely.

Areas covered may include developmental stages, sensory processing, mobility, goal setting, meal preparation, safe travel, personal hygiene, and recreational and community access.

She can also recommend aids and equipment options or home modifications.

Kymberley has a big interest in equipping kids with tools that can help them throughout life.

As a busy working mum, she also understands that therapeutic strategies need to easily fit into everyday life in order to be practised: another addition on an already full ‘to do’ list just adds pressure to everyone involved.

Kymberley is a James Cook University graduate.
