Experience has shown Leonard Manuel that with the right supports, prompts and guidance, life’s direction can be turned around.

As a teen, more than 20 years ago, Leonard was part of a street gang. He was also a talented performer. Being selected to be part of a performing troupe touring Europe changed his life course.

“I couldn’t believe it. Right up until the plane left the tarmac, I was sure that someone was going to tap me on the shoulder and tell me to move on. When that didn’t happen, I promised myself to change, to give back to community, and to support and encourage others to be the best versions of themselves.

“I’ve no personal agenda; I’m there for you,” he says.

As a Therapy Pro social worker, Leonard helps clients solve and cope with the cognitive, behavioural, and emotional challenges experienced in their everyday lives.

Leonard is skilled in relationship counselling, psychological strategies, mindfulness, behaviour management and anger management.

Since moving from New Zealand in 2011, he has also worked closely with Indigenous community members, supporting clients with mental health, addiction, trauma, and grief.

As the parent of a child with a disability, Leonard also has first-hand understanding of the need to identify and connect with services that make life better for you or your family members.

Leonard gained a masters in narrative therapy from Melbourne University in 2020.
