Originally from Ireland, Maria is a skilled occupational therapist, or OT, with over a decade’s worth of experience and knowledge.

Maria pursued a career that actively supports people after seeing how a family member benefited from therapy and the impact this had on them, and the people around them.

Working with people of all ages, Maria takes particular care to understand the uniqueness of each situation.

“Everyone is different. My role is to walk alongside the person and support them to do what it is they are seeking to do. It’s really about quality of life and that is so important for everyone, no matter what stage you are at or the challenges you are facing.”

Maria can support people with a range of diagnosis, medical conditions or disabilities, including chronic pain, who have had a stroke or have a diagnosis of MS to help manage risk around their homes by prescribing equipment and aids that help provide independence.

Building trust and understanding the complexities of peoples’ situations, acknowledging that there are often many competing things at play, helps Maria to work in a holistic way with clients.

“Being client-centred really allows me to be led by what the person is looking to achieve. I’m humble in my approach and simply apply my education and skills to manage their condition or progress towards their goals.”

After many years working in hospital environments, Maria is excited to be seeing people in their homes and working in the community which will allow collaboration with clients to explore real life solutions that focus on wellbeing and independence.

When not working, Maria is busy studying a master’s in public health which specialises in health promotion or spending time with her young family and energetic dog.
