Megan Chaffin helps children with a variety of developmental challenges achieve more of the day-to-day activities they want (and need) to do, more easily and, she hopes, happily.

As a specialist paediatric occupational therapist, Megan takes a play-based approach to her work with children, rating fun and play seriously.

She also recognises the importance of making strategies easy to do to fit into a whole family’s everyday lifestyle.

“I like to think of myself as a resource for families to tap into for tools, ideas and strategies,” she says.

Megan Chaffin is primarily an early interventionist, working with babies to 6-year-olds who have physical impairments or complex medical needs.

She has particular experience in supporting children who have rare genetic or chromosomal conditions (e.g. Down syndrome), congenital disorders (e.g. cerebral palsy), or neural tube defects (e.g. spina bifida).

Megan also has special interest in working with babies to develop their play, social-emotional, cognitive, fine, and gross, motor skills.

Working with such young clients, Megan works collaboratively alongside parents, siblings, and other family members.

“Play is the primary occupation for all children, and I take a play-based approach when working with children in a way that supports the development of play, motor, cognitive and social-emotional skills,” she says.

“I make therapy FUN in a way that helps my young clients achieve their goals.”

Megan is experienced in assessing and prescribing aids, equipment and technology to enable a child to participate and engage in everyday activities.

Megan gained her Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours) at The University of Queensland.
