When you meet Therapy Pro psychologist (provisional) Michael Raphael, you’re likely to be struck by how likeable, open, and approachable he is.

In fact, it’s hard to imagine that in 2010, the teenage Michael was extremely lonely, frustrated because he could not communicate and be understood, and felt lost in a very dark tunnel.

At that time, Michael was new to Australia, arriving from Dubai and needing to learn a new language and lifestyle.

Those experiences gave him great empathy.

An elective high school subject in psychology proved to be his turning point.

“Until then, I had no idea there were such people as counsellors or psychologists. I’m committed to helping others never feel so lost,” he says.

Michael can help clients with psychological assessments and interventions, develop behavioural support plans, and deal with presentations including anxiety, stress, depression, trauma, grief, and other emotional regulation issues.

Using applied behaviour analysis (ABA) techniques, Michael has particular experience helping clients with autism, anxiety and attention deficit behaviour improve social interactions, learn new skills, and maintain positive behaviours.

ABA is one of his favoured therapeutic interventions, as it can help people manage lifestyle changes that accompany many mental and physical conditions.

Available to work with clients of all ages, Michael can deliver his counselling, assessments and therapeutic interventions in English or Arabic.

Michael graduated from Deakin University with a Bachelor of Psychology, backed up with a graduate diploma of psychology.

Working with Michael, you can expect to brainstorm and tease out what is really going on and be guided towards the light at the end of your tunnel.
