Therapy Pro welcomes Michael Smallman to its Melbourne allied health team, adding to our capacity to deliver occupational therapy (OT) services to clients of all ages.

OTs are daily life specialists who support clients to improve key relationships and daily living functions—bathing, toileting, dressing, eating, walking—as well as school, workplace and community involvement.

Michael’s passion for helping others began in his late teens when he volunteered at a holiday camp for kids with disabilities. Volunteering continued for a few holiday periods before becoming a disability support worker – a role he continued throughout his university studies.

“I’ve noticed people are often more able – more capable – than they appear on paper, or may even realise in themselves, and what they can lack most is confidence,” Michael says.

“I enjoy being an encouraging presence. I enjoy gathering information, trying new things and thinking on my feet. If I don’t have the answer for you, I say ‘let’s give it a crack and figure it out together’!”

Michael works with children and adults to improve their wellbeing and independence.

He can also help clients with aids and equipment assessments and may make recommendations for minor modifications at home to improve independence and safety.

Michael Smallman is a Monash University occupational therapy graduate.
