Lack of self-esteem or motivation, and feelings of depression or anxiety can become a person’s ‘normal’ – but they don’t need to be, says Therapy Pro Melbourne psychologist (provisional) Nick Maroney.
“Depression, anxiety, trauma and grief are emotions that won’t go away by being ignored or denied,” he says.
“And grief isn’t limited to loss of a loved one: it’s just as real for those experiencing a loss of job, or ability or autonomy.”
Nick sees psychology and the development of our emotional awareness as a powerful way to make sense of what’s going on around us
An experienced counsellor, Nick prompts, probes and supports clients of all ages who want to address challenges of emotional regulation, behaviour management, anger management, stress management, poor self-esteem and self-confidence, and poor social skills.
He carries out thorough psychological assessments and tailors therapeutic interventions, including positive behaviour management plans, to meet individual needs and goals.
Ground-breaking research he undertook 10 years ago revealed the danger of problematic video gaming – when the escapist bit of fun became an unhealthy ‘disengagement coping strategy’, as psychologists call it, particularly among males.
Nick Maroney was awarded a Masters of Professional Psychology from Deakin University in 2019.
