Tony Smith has worked with clients in the aged and disability sectors since 2010.
He has helped bring about change for clients whose frustration in not being understood has been misinterpreted by others, sometimes as aggressive or ‘challenging’.
“I want to help you regain your freedom, control and choice,” Tony says.
As a Therapy Pro speech and language pathologist, Tony Smith is available to work with adults and children, assessing and addressing challenges that impact language development, social communication, swallowing, mealtime management and literacy.
He can prescribe technological aids to provide alternative non-verbal communication.
Tony is also interested to support people with dysphagia or issues with swallowing. It’s a function he’s seen played down too often: “A persistent tickle in the throat or recurrent chest infections may be signs of an issue with swallowing and call for further investigation and potential intervention”.
Unresolved, dysphagia has social implications as well as safe eating and drinking.
A former case manager for adults with disability living in supported accommodation, Tony appreciates day-to-day living challenges and the importance of holistic individualised support.
Tony Smith gained a Bachelor of Biomedical Science and a Masters in Speech Pathology from the University of Queensland.
