ADHD Assessment for Adults in Brisbane & Melbourne
Wondering if challenges with focus, organisation, or impulsivity might be ADHD?
ADHD assessments assist in determining if there is an underlying reason for areas of concern with attention and focus, exploring a possible diagnosis, and providing individual tailored recommendations for support.
We undertake standardised assessments for adults that can contribute to the clinical evidence required for a diagnosis of ADHD. Assessment reports are completed by registered and provisional psychologists who can also provide a diagnosis. Meaning you don’t need to go to another provider if you’re seeking an assessment and a possible diagnosis.
Our reports can be used as part of your NDIS application, shared with your university, or provided to your employer to assist in accessing accommodations and support.

Frequently Asked Questions
An ADHD assessment for adults typically involves several components.
You’ll complete standardised questionnaires that assess symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity.
Your psychologist will conduct a detailed clinical interview covering your childhood, developmental history, work and relationship experiences, and current challenges.
We’ll explore how symptoms appear across different areas of your life (work, home, relationships) and assess for other conditions that can present similarly to ADHD, such as anxiety or depression.
Where helpful, we may ask a family member, partner or close friend to provide additional observations about your symptoms.
A comprehensive ADHD assessment typically takes between 2-4 hours of total time.
At Therapy Pro, our assessment includes a clinical interview, standardised questionnaires, review of your history, a feedback session to discuss results, and a detailed written report.
You’ll receive your results within 4-6 weeks of your assessment appointment.
In Australia, psychologists and psychiatrists can diagnose ADHD.
The key difference is that psychiatrists can prescribe medication, while psychologists cannot.
Many adults choose to see a psychologist first for a comprehensive assessment, as this is often more cost-effective and has shorter waitlists.
If medication is recommended as part of your treatment plan, your psychologist can assit you to link in with your GP and a psychiatrist who can use the assessment to support their prescribing decisions.
Our psychologists at Therapy Pro are trained and experienced in conducting evidence-based assessments in accordance with national guidelines.
Here at Therapy Pro our assessment costs range from $2000-$2700.
We do not accept Medicare rebates for diagnostic ADHD assessments.
However, if you have private health insurance with psychology coverage, you may be able to claim a portion of the cost. Check with your health fund before booking.
You do not need a GP referral to book an ADHD assessment with a psychologist at Therapy Pro.
To get the most from your assessment, take time before your appointment to reflect on your experiences.
Jot down specific examples of challenges you face with attention, organisation, impulsivity or hyperactivity.
Note how long you’ve experienced these difficulties and how they impact your work, relationships and daily life.
If you have any previous psychological reports, school reports, or performance reviews mentioning attention or organisation difficulties, bring these along.
Consider asking a family member or close friend if they’d be willing to complete a brief questionnaire about your symptoms, as this provides valuable additional perspective.
Most importantly, be open and honest during the assessment about your experiences.
If you receive an ADHD diagnosis, your assessment report will include personalised recommendations for support.
This may include psychological strategies (such as organisation systems, time management techniques and emotional regulation skills), workplace accommodations, referral to a psychiatrist if medication might be beneficial, or recommendations for specific therapies.
Your psychologist will discuss these options during your feedback session and can provide referrals to appropriate services.
All Therapy Pro diagnostic reports meet the level of evidence required for NDIS applications.
Our ADHD assessment reports are comprehensive, evidence-based documents that are widely accepted by psychiatrists, GPs, employers and educational institutions.
All Therapy Pro diagnostic reports meet the level of evidence required for NDIS applications.
The report documents functional impacts of ADHD on your daily life and provides recommendations for psychological support to build skills and independence.
However, an ADHD diagnosis alone may not necessarily qualify someone for NDIS funding. You will need to meet eligibility criteria, which includes having a permanent impairment that substantially impacts daily life.
If you’re not currently an NDIS participant, your psychologist can discuss whether an ADHD diagnosis might support an access request, particularly if you have other conditions.
