Quote

As a proud Kiwi, I often find strength in the proverbs shared in Maoridom. The one that I feel sums up the destination of my journey with clients is “Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, engari he toa takitini”, which means “Our strength is not made from us alone, but made from many”. I believe in empowering my clients to build their resilience with supportive networks that continue to nurture this growth.

How can you support people?

Janelle works collaboratively within allied health, community and family support networks to ensure many methods of support at different levels can be applied and translated to become natural parts of the person’s journey towards goal attainment.

How does your background shape the way you work?

Janelle has cut her teeth in many fields within the psychology world, from working in a Non-for-profit community based anxiety specialist service, where she ran groups for peers, children and parents to self-care workshops, educating the community and playing her part to reduce the stigma of mental health concerns for all walks of life. Janelle has previously held roles within the NDIS where the values or empowering and encouraging person’s of all walks of life to live the life they want to live and find their place in their community. The same values were applied in her work with the North Western PHN in Melbourne and now she is bringing her knowledge of mental health sectors back to the NDIS to continue the work started in 2019.

What is your approach to working with people?

Janelle is a passionately compassionate and curious clinician who aims to build therapeutic support around clients and their supports. She works to create a space that is both safe in the work, and for the client to be able to move through their experience internally without judgement and to leave clients with the internal and external knowledge of living the lives they want to live, always seeking out and moving towards their personal goals.
