Frequently Asked Questions
NIISQ or the National Injury Insurance Scheme Queensland is a government funded scheme that provides funding access to those that require reasonable and necessary treatment after sustaining a serious injury following a motor vehicle accident on Queensland roads.
Once eligible participants are granted access to the scheme, their Support Planner will assess whether there is a possible psychological injury. From there, they will typically recommend that participants complete an assessment and treatment plan with a psychologist to determine ongoing treatment needs.
During the initial assessment session, your therapist will collect information about your motor vehicle accident, current symptoms, and any difficulties you are experiencing. They will then ask you to complete some assessment measures. From there, they will discuss your goals and proposed treatment options.
It is a requirement of NIISQ that allied health providers liaise with Support Planners and provide reports and updates on treatment progress. However some information shared with your therapist will be confidential and this will be clarified with you in the first session.
No, once the Support Planner has approved a treatment plan, NISSQ will pay for approved intervention.
The number of treatment sessions varies depending on the severity of the injury. The treating psychologist completes the initial assessment and Allied Health Treatment Plan, which is then provided to the Support Planner for their approval.
No. Once your WorkCover claim is approved and treatment is authorised, there is no out-of-pocket cost for your appointments.
We will bill WorkCover directly. However, you are responsible to pay in full for any sessions you miss or cancel within 24hours of your scheduled time.
The number of sessions depends on:
- Your injury at workplace and recovery needs
- Approval from your case manager or GP
We typically start with 4-6 sessions, then review your progress with your WorkCover case manager.
