Hello! My Name is Nick

My name is Nick and I am a registered psychologist. When working with clients, I typically employ a cognitive behavioural approach to help clients understand how their thoughts, feelings and behaviours are linked and impact their daily life. I also employ a strengths-based approach and work from the belief that people are more capable of change than they realise, even if this relates to a problem they have been struggling with for years.  

I chose to become a psychologist due to finding people’s behaviour and experiences interesting. If you have three people come to see you with the same problem they will all have different stories of how this came to be, and that is what fascinates me in this role. I also find it rewarding to see people putting in the time to overcome their own problems.   

My approach

When working with clients, I try and employ a very casual but warm style of collaboration. I don’t believe in a power imbalance between myself and a client and try to facilitate a relationship where we can both be direct and open with each other without fearing judgement or shame (call it how you see it, I respect the honesty). 

A first session with myself will involve getting to know the client and discussing what has brought them to me, gathering any relevant information that will help inform understanding their context and daily life, and answering any questions or concerns they may have (coming to therapy is daunting! It takes bravery to open up to people). 

My first priority is both of us getting to know each other and wanting to set up a very comfortable dynamic. This would look like a relationship in which a client can comfortably provide feedback or speak without feeling embarrassed to do so.
